Core Competence of the Corporation

Core competence is a bundle of skills and technologies that enables a company to provide a particular benefit to customers. The core competence of the corporation, when we say core competencies- these are the skills, characteristics, and assets that set your company apart from competitors. They are the fuel for innovation and the roots of competitive advantage. Today’s corporation must maintain competitiveness by developing core competencies. These competencies determine the strategic architecture of the firm. Competencies must translate into core products, which significantly contribute to the firm’s end products. Strategic architecture means a company’s future is determined by its core competencies. These competencies define the architecture and characteristics of the global competitive firm.

If I’m going to relate this into our academe in which I’m employed, we are an Ignacian Marian school that has the Ignacian core values; this is the spiritual legacy of Venerable Ignacia del Espiritu Santo- the foundress of RVM congregation. The Ignacian core values are Faith, Excellence and Service. Faith – a personal relationship with God based on trust.  We participate actively in the religious celebrations of the community. Upholds what is righteous and just in accordance with Sacred Scriptures and Church teachings. We have the related values namely strong faith in God, prophetic witness to Gospel values, nationalism, communion and justice. Venerable Mother. RVM sisters mold us into the right path.
Next is Excellence - is not an act but a habit (Aristotle). It is not a skill but an attitude. Excellence means state of possessing good qualities in an eminent degree, meeting the standard of quality. Excellence is associated with Honor: “Excel in all you do; bring no stain upon your honor”. We had the quality teachers, adequate facilities and the learning materials in the library. This is what the students can benefit from HCBC. We have the quality Christian education, innovative and modern strategies in teaching. Also the use of digital equipments that make learning interesting, for example the projectors and the AVR room for film showing, defense and seminars. We can say that teachers here look for innovative instructions; so that we have the challenging and interesting teaching styles. The special needs of each student should be meet by the teachers inside the classroom. For example are the educational field trips and immersion. That is to apply the theoretical principles learned inside the classroom. Also added are the role playing of the general principles to make students aware of significant aspects of learning. Included is the challenging class requirement that is to awaken the multiple intelligences of the students.  Also the included related values for excellence are integrity, competence, resourcefulness, discipline and self-reliance.

Last one is service – it means that to serve is to render assistance or help by performing certain duties. The related values for service are stewardship, humility, charity, courage, preferential love of the poor. I remember my co-teacher told me that being a teacher is also called to a service. She knows that I will be looking for a greener pasture someday; leave this academe after I will finished on my post graduate studies. But she said that after you will earned your masteral degree, lend at least 2 years in this school, “service” she said. I was touched because all of a sudden, I’m thinking of a work that will compensate me more in terms of the salary due to the fact that we have the small amount of salary compared to other schools. But teaching career is not all about the salary; it’s all about the contentment and service that you have done to your students because teaching job is all about commitment and dedication to your job. True, indeedJ.

For the core competences for the employees are; we having the seminars, trainings and immersion to update our skills. The salary, 13th month pay, fringe benefits and insurance is also given to the employees here in HCBC “on- time”.   The employees here have the security and harmonious relationship within the administration.
We were guided by the light- the Vision, we have the Mission of quality and the Goal. We have the Vision statement:
Holy Cross of Bansalan College envisions itself as,
An  Ignacian  Marian  School  that
            ventures into  new  paths  of
            strengthening  character  and
            developing  competence  in

HCBC has the core competencies that make us different from the other schools, it is our edge and it’s very evident that the numbers of enrollees were increasing every year. Therefore I conclude that HCBC is one of the finest schools that people here in Bansalan and from other barrio would choose from as the foundation of education for their sons and daughters.
